![]() There is literally no logical basis for it. But the outright hatred she gets is far out of proportion to anything she says or does in the movie. I could understand people being indifferent to her, because she's not the type of character everybody's going to relate to. But there are a lot of other unhealthy expectations and attitudes packed up in it as well. Some of it is unquestionably racism, that those viewers felt threatened by such a prominent role in the movie being given to an Asian woman - just as many viewers originally complained about John Boyega's casting as Finn. And though I think Kelly herself is super cute and can absolutely look beautiful in a gown and makeup, Rian did not choose to have her look that way in the movie, and I think a lot of viewers with traditional Hollywood tastes and beauty standards felt like she was an "annoying" waste of their time because of that. Before Rose, we never had a major female character in the SW movies who wasn't white, beautiful by traditional Hollywood standards, shaped like a Vogue model, and dressed in a flattering if not downright glamorous way. which drove Kelly away from Social Media. ^īefore you ask, yes, we are probably going to watch EPIX as well together ^ And we saw Solo too, which we both liked A LOT again.Īnd if TLJ is brought up, I still mock him about Rose, and I enjoy how he tries to evade and defelct my jokes, because he clearly knows by now how stupid his "hatred" is.he will probably never like her though.but for me it was important to not let him get away with stupid statements like the one above. And they want their female chars closer to a boring generic beauty standard.I swear if Rose had been played by some "Bimbo" (sorry, not nice either I know) we would never have seen half or ANY hatred.give her a sexy outfit on top, and Canto Bight suddenly becomes the greatest piece of cinema for many of the Rose-Haters. A bit "mysoginistc" or lets call it "macho", more about looks than character, wanting super heroes doing amazing shit you can watch on YT over and over again (like with "Infinity War"). Long story short - I think a LOT of people are like my friend. and we argued about this some time, and I questioned him about why he thinks she is bad, or asked him mockingly whether Rose being played by someone like Amber Heard would change his mind.he also repeated some stuff like "she stopped Finn from suiciding and become a hero" - which he clearly read somewhere on Facebook or something, I don't think he would have come up with this himself. yep.I mean, he is an okay dude beside that. ![]() I asked him why, and the rather sad and dissapointing answer was "I just hate that fat asian bitch". And many scenes I adored right out of the theatre. Myself? I do not love it either, but after repeated watching have come to appreciate the style, art, characters and direction quite a bit. Not hated it, but definately did not love it. were simply not engaging to me, and that made even the bombastic last half quite dull. ![]() the rest? He glossed over it.while I told him the chars. bored.espeically of course in the beginning. I told him, to his suprise, it was the first SW I was kinda of. ![]() Rogue One was the first time we kinda disagreed. We both also enjoyed TFA - maybe myself more than he did. We talk a lot about SW, books, the movies, make fun about characters like Willrow Hood etc. But loves the OT, and being early 30ties he acknowledges the Prequels are not that great, but it was those movies he saw first in theatres, so he never goes full hate on those. He is a SW Nerd, maybe not as much as myself though. So I watched TLJ with a friend from work in theatre. I want to share an anecdote in regardsd to Rose Tico. ![]()
